Music

Likes Variety of Music:   Them: Yes ___ No ___

I was fortunate to have grown up with a father who loved music. He played the clarinet in the marching band at college. I played the bass clarinet for six years in high school.

A pilot friend of my father’s gave him stereo components that he was eventually able to assemble into a working system.

I never thought of it before, but somehow he managed to accumulate enough speakers to wire the outside acre. On Sunday’s after church, the entire outdoors was filled with Benny Goodman and “Little Brown Jug” or Marty Robbins and “El Paso”. His taste in music was varied. He loved the 40’s, big band, country and classical. But he absolutely and adamantly abhorred Rock and Roll.

When I was in my late twenties, I moved to Hawaii and dated a doctor who was an accomplished classical pianist. It surprised me that ten years after leaving home, I vividly remembered Beethoven’s “Fifth” or one of my all time favorites, Strauss’s “Vienna Waltz”.

For those who are passionate about music or any of the arts, there is no denying the pleasure and participation in music.
